Advancements in Hair Restoration

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is the older, traditional hair transplant surgery, better known as “strip” surgery. During this surgery, the surgeon removes a large part of the patient’s scalp from the back of their head. This removal process required the patient to have stitches or staples to close the wound properly. The strip of scalp that was removed was then given to technicians who manually dissect each individual follicular unit. The units would then be transplanted back into the scalp. Recovery time for this surgery would generally take a few weeks. In addition, patients were prone to numbness, scalp tightness and persistent pain. They also were at risk of having an obvious linear scar on their head.

ARTAS HAIR RESTORATION

The ARTAS® Robotic Procedure restores your hair by transplanting permanent hair from the back or side of the head into thinning areas. Your physician uses the ARTAS Robotic System to digitally scan areas of the scalp, identifying hair in its natural groupings. Selected hair is then precisely removed, using the ARTAS Robotic System’s image-guided robotics. Most of your hair is left in place so that the area retains its natural appearance.

The hair is then transplanted by the physician into thinning areas. This transplanted hair will then grow naturally in its new location, just as it did before.
